I have no idea why this works, but this is what I ended up doing:(I'm using Soundblaster Audigy ZS)
For Soundblaster users. 1. You have to go into your registry ( in win xp you click Start, click Run, type regedit) 2. You go to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\CreativeTech\Emu10kx\DriverSettings\Wave\Pin#000 00002 or in : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\CreativeTech\20X\DriverSettings\Wave\Pin#0000000 2 3. Set Turbo to 0 instead of 1. The link is here :WoW Forums -> New solution to latency caused by sound My spells that are supposed to be instant cast are instant cast again and things are loading like they are supposed to. I have no idea why that fixed my problem, maybe next semester my hardware class will help explain :P

I copied and stuck this post here since it's a workaround for those with latency issues caused by the new sound engine. Least this will alleviate some game lag until Blizzard implements proper creative sound card support into the game again.

Some techie details - this would seem to be caused by a driver/config 'feature' by Creative. 'Turbo' is suspected to affect some kind of hardware feature that changes the frequency, I find it interesting that Bioshock uses the same sound engine as WoW and had to do some 'fiddling' to get Creative cards working properly. Likely their developers use Creative cards and noticed a problem and inquired. Perhaps Blizzard does not - few do, maybe they didn't notice - and never ran across this problem.
QA testing and control aside, who knows where the root cause lies. This is a workaround, and seems to work. |

I have the same sound card mentioned above, Soundblaster Audigy ZS, however I have not experienced the lag issues you guys have described with World of Warcraft or Bioshock (other than the usually Blizzard lag, and Bioshock runs perfectly). Perhaps that problem only happens in Windows XP, because I use Windows Vista. I'm not sure.

Again, night and day difference for me. If instant cast spells aren't quite instant and the game hangs/loads cities slow etc and you are using one of the Soundblaster cards I definitely suggest starting here.

I run a Soundblaster Audigy 4 system and don't have this issue. It may be an issue with Audigy 2 only
