Guild Recruitment from 10/16/8 onward

First and foremost, OOC is currently CLOSED to all non RL friends and family.

Secondly and secondmost, Lunariel is OOC's new recruitment officer, God grant mercy on his soul and congratulations you poor poor sucker! :)

As such he has drafted the following:

Membership Policy

Applications - Anyone wishing to join Order of Chaos must complete a membership application (Even long standing members who may have been removed due to inactivity). There are no exceptions to this policy. Applications will be reviewed by guild leadership. Applicants will be evaluated at this point and if the reviewing officer deems it appropriate, provisional membership will be granted (recruit status).

Friends and Family - Real life friends and family of OoC members have the possibility of joining even during times of closed recruitment. Any member of Order of Chaos may request provisional membership for the aforementioned friend or relative. These potential members must still complete an application for membership.

Provisional Membership - Provisional membership is a thirty day evaluation period. Provisional membership will not last longer than thirty days. At the end of this period the disposition of the provisional member will be determined in the following manner:

Provisional members wishing to obtain guild member status will need to have no fewer than ten members and one officer recommendations for approval. Moreover, provisional members may not have more that five members or officers recommend declination of membership.

Accountability - Members are responsible for the actions and behavior of the friends and relatives they recommend. If these players act in a way that is not in keeping with the standards of Order of Chaos, they will be removed. The person who recommended them will be held accountable for their actions. After the first such incident an officer will talk with the recommending member. If this happens a second time this person faces the possibility of punitive actions which may include demotion or, possibly, removal from the guild for repeat offenders.

Activity - Members of Order of Chaos are here to play with their friends and guild mates. In order to maintain a lean, manageable roster and identify potential class recruiting needs, players who are inactive for a period of greater than one month will be removed from the guild.

I will unfortantly be unable to play not by my choice remind you.

I will however try to log in via my laptop when/if we pull into a port.

For the month of November I will not be playing. Each year in November I participate in Nanowrimo, and I plan on doing the same this year. Meanwhile, I am trying to get Badgerdance to 70 before Halloween night, when my account post-pones for a month.
Honestly, I think I'll be back before you guys even notice I'm gone. The it will be the long, 5 year trek to 80 for me.

Was 3 months gone before booting due to inactivity not working anymore or something? Was there some reason for changing it to 1 month and adding in all that bureaucratic work of having people reapply? Other than for Luna's satisfaction in booting people? 1 month seems awful short.

It's happened before, and it's really irrelevant. The question was what does moving it down to 1 month gain that isn't then taken away by the increased overhead of having to deal with re-applications and the attending bureacratic issues.

Some time ago I remember us going down to a tighter inactivity boot time, but it was in the hey-day of pre-BC raiding when we were running very close to the 500 max display limit of the guild pane. Is that the situation now?

I'm just curious.

Quite simply, we want people who want to be in the guild and play with us. We don't want fair-weather guild mates who are here when they have nothing better to do. If you have plans and will be (at sea, on the moon, dead) just let us know. We will make note and see you when you (make shore, splash down in the ocean, become undead).

We want to be able to recruit and make sure we have a guild who has sufficient players in each class to ensure viable raid groups. If we gear a tank or healer who continues to vanish for a month at a time, this degrades our ability to do so. We will take this into account when they reapply.

While we are discussing this, the next person who leaves Order of Chaos for another guild will not get back into Order of Chaos as long as I am in this position. We are the best guild on the server. If we are not your first choice, we don't want to be your second.

It sounds like this policy is being built around 'worst case scenario' and, IMHO, should be relaxed to the usual 3 month limit to reduce the number of false positives.

Luna, no doubt we are the best. However, even I who have been with this guild since November of 1999, would get mighty damn tired of filling out a form to reapply to my own guild.

And yes, I don't mind paying for the monthly fee even if I can't log on :P When it's crazy at work and I'm putting in the extra hours, it's very comforting to know that WoW is there and waiting - more importantly that OOC is there and I still have a home.

Let me say, that this is not "Luna's Policy". This is the Order of Chaos policy that all of the officers drafted together. I was asked to act as scribe and put our ideas to words. What we have done this for better health of Order of Chaos. If I leave for a month or two, I will not mind having to reapply at all. I view membership here as a privilege I am given and not a birthright. I will treat it as such and smile as I reapply.

Just to reiterate what Lun said, he is not to blame for this policy (mostly :) ) We have had a rash of people leave and come back, I can think of 5 off the top of my head recently. I get real tired of the revolving door policy that we have had in the past (I have been lax personally in just blanket re-inviting people)

If you are anticipating an extended absence, please jsut notify any officer, or simply post on the boards and, assuming you are not under censure for something, you will not be auto booted.

Example: DD is defending our country. He would not get booted because of that!!!!!

Example 2: Mage A goes to help a friends guild get established, finds it sucks on the outside wold and wants back in. Mage A has to reapply, wait a month, and get 10 people plus 1 officer to vouch for him while avoiding 5 negative responses.

Fi, you're one of the few who've been in OOC longer than I. Hell, you were my patron in AC1!!!! But if we don't have some sort of uniform policy we become a doormat. I don't like being a doormat.

It's the old thing, we have a policy that needs to be uniform across the board or it means nothing.

I'm hoping this policy may give people pause before they decide to leave to check out some other guild knowing they may NOT simply be invited back with open arms.

I think what's missing here is the communication part. If you know that you will be gone for a certain period of time, tell us, we'll update an officer note or the in game note. If things get too busy in life, it's - imo - easy to make a forum post or login to tell us.

We're just saying that if there's no notice or no one knows anything for 1 month, we'll assume you have quit the game and not coming back.

I think even proxying notifications would be OK - tell a friend, so long as someone tells us - we'll update the note.
