Order of Chaos 50 Slot Vent Server

Order of Chaos has now invested in a Ventrilo server.

We used to manage our own Teamspeak server but due to Teamspeak's inability to release a modern product, or a new product at all, we've decided to switch to Ventrilo.

Why a Vent server over in-game? Well, the in-game chat is nice and it's functional, but on many occasions (least when I've used it) voice quality breaks down considerably. So, until in-game voice quality becomes a non-issue, we offer this alternative.

Here are the details.

Server Name: voice.orderofchaos.com
Port: 6123
Server Password: ooc

It's running Ventrilo v3.0.2 - so you'll need Ventrilo Client (win32 or MacOS). No Linux client yet, sorry.

There's several channels, I've created 5 p5 group channels, and 2 p10 group channels. Please use them.

Does this mean raids and stuff are going to be using Vent instead of in game voice?

For P25's I'd say yeah, this will likely be the de-facto chat standard if it's required. Point is, this is an alternative... you don't HAVE to use it, but if the group is on vent and you're not... you are essentially left out.

Besides, in-game voice was only introduced in 2.2, 3rd party was the only option prior.

Ventrilo's quality is amazing compared to in-game voice. It is worth using.

Depending on how much people use this, and considering how many 5mans we have going at once all the time, you might wanna add a channel for pvp/arena, and some lounge or 'other' channel for people that dont want to just sit in the general area.

Here's a quick "how-to" to get your Ventrilo up and running, hope this helps the folks who have never used Vent before:

First, download the CLIENT for whatever machine you are using from Ventrilo - Surround Sound Voice Communication Software

Then, click the little arrow on the right hand side of "server", called "add or edit server connections".

A box will appear. Click "new" to add a new server. Type in Order of Chaos, or OOC for the connection, whatever you want to call it, it doesn't matter.

After that, you will see boxes with information that needs to be filled in. Under "Hostname or IP" type voice.orderofchaos.com

Under Port type 6123

Under Password type ooc

Leave default channel blank.

Then hit ok. Once you've done that, the server will be listed, just hit connect and you are on ooc's vent :)

Thank you rage for hosting a server, the in game voice is so horrible I turn it off most the time.

Make sure you enable voice normalization so you can actually hear everyone, and the people with loud mics don't break your ear drums.

Traitor! ... any way. The sound quality is amazing. Even Arcaia came into The Lab and commented on it. There are still other things that I like better with the in game voice... but blast! I can understand everyone with vent. hehe

Anybody know if it's possible to customize the overlay? I'd like to be able to see who's talking but the overlay as it is is just too freakin huge
