Leveling and Grouping in OoC
A lot of discussion about P5/10 instances recently, and I've come under fire for not helping those in guild progress into raiding, or not even look at raiding at all. So this is meant as a Guide to help those familiarize themselves with how OoC operates in the P5/10 space.
OoC is a typical self serve guild, meaning that when you need something done - you start it on your own. But isn't that bad and unfriendly? Not necessarily, for the most part the entire game of WoW is setup this way. It's a natural occurance - the game assumes you're on your own until about level 30-35. But I'm not on my own, I like to group with people. That's awesome, social people are always welcome. But please do realize that if you're free to do things, many other people may not be. It may be frustrating but there are many ways to get a group together, one of which is find one out of guild. If I need to group outside, why am I in this guild? The guild is more than just a way to level, plenty of people provide crafting and materials as well as guidance to help you level. Help can come in different ways, lots of people make large volume bags for members at very little cost (most of the time no cost, or just materials) It's the same for crafting of weapons and armor. The important thing to remember is that leveling is part of the game, a guild is not meant to take away parts of the game. Ok, how do I form a group in OoC? The very best way to form a group in OoC is to let people know about it. As a new person it may be difficult early on to get people interested in what you're running. The best method is to advertise, the response will be varying depending on the time. If it's during the day, you may not get many responses, if it's early evening - you may get some but expect people to need to leave early for dinner or time with their families. If it's evening, expect some difficulty on the nights the guild run P40's. Another great way is to look at the guild list. The guild list will tell you where people are, what they're doing and you should be able to determine who's busy and who's not. If you suspect someone isn't busy, send them a tell to see if they'd like to be part of your group. Sometimes you may not be able to get any responses and as a last resort ask an officer for help, a guild MOTD is a great way to catch people as they login or if you want to post an event in the future. What if I'm level 30 and would like to run Scarlet Monastary but no one in guild is my level? Unfortunately it's hard for us to reply with an answer you may want to hear. Having a larger guild with the majority of it's members at level 60 sometimes makes it difficult for new lower level people to advance. At best we can offer help and advice, but it should not be expected for those max level players to speed you through a lower instance. Personally I don't see how it helps and it distracts from some of the really cool things in those instances. The best thing to do in this case is follow the previous questions suggestions, or look outside of the guild. I want to run X and Y instance every week so I can gear up for Raiding, but I don't know what to do! This is an excellent attitude, I and the other officers are here to help. The absolute best way to do this, is ask an officer to add your event to the calendar. Once that's done, make a forum post, many members read the forums during the day. It's probably the single best communication source for the guild - use it to your advantage. When the day you'd like to go is getting close, contact an officer to have your event posted in the guild MOTD so that people are reminded further. Last but not least, do not be afraid to ask questions or ask people if they're available to do a quest, grind out levels or just around to chat. |

All I can add is that I've seen pretty good luck with messaging people in /g, and OoC is absolutely DRIPPING with players with alts, so provided they aren't busy raiding Naxx or something you stand a chance of having someone bring their alt along.
Plus, mixed guild/PuG runs aren't the end of the world. I was in a pretty good Mara run that was mixed. Generally a few pubbies aren't the end of the world, so don't ignore "/4".

The trick to forming a guild group is being proactive about it. "Anybody wanna do UBRS?" isn't likely to get many responses, but giving tells to a couple of tanks and healers then doing a "I got a tank and healer for UBRS, anybody got a key or wanna come DPS?" will get a much better response.

I've had very few problems getting groups together in guild. IMO if you are available to help others, they will make themselves available to help you. So run that BRD run that makes you want to tear your eyes out! It'll pay off later when YOU need that 5th Scholo run to try to get Cadaverous leggings!

Get this addon to help with the public Looking For Group channel.
http://www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/a...buddy-lfg.html It provides a mini-map icon to a screen which shows you which people are forming which groups, provided in a nice list. See the screen shots. So, you just have the addon read the crappy LFG channel for you, instead of you looking thru it yourself. |
